Day 448: Prioritizing / Staying Awake

Up early again today, with my wife for an early shift — saw her out, cleaned the cat feeder, washed the Dutch oven, made some soy nuts, and now I’m struggling with feeling sleepy and wondering what to do with the day.

Not that there’s a lack of things to do, but I foolishly stayed up a bit late and now I’m creaking a bit. I could have a nap, but feel a bit guilty about sleeping while my wife works.

It’s tinkering and prioritizing — I have volunteer things I can work on. The side hustle is long neglected. The story I’m telling myself is that I’m squaring away side things in April and May to renew focus on that in June, which feels true, but I’m wondering if I’m just a bit intimidated and trying to swing it positively.

As far as the “getting better” project, I’m riding high right now. Not all boxes on the checklist last night, but I stuck to no snacks, am on top of finances, etc.

As things go, “I’m a bit tired” is probably the best outcome. Health is on track, exercise is good, food seems to be under control (one day at a time!) and I’m developing some ideas for the podcast that I really like… once the big volunteer things are squared away.

I feel like I’m making good decisions lately: stepping away from board responsibilities as a volunteer for project-based volunteering, on track with the four pillars of diet, exercise, sobriety and sleep. Well, a little less with the sleep today.

Day 361: Migraine!

I don’t know where it came from, but yesterday was a pretty much lost day due to a migraine — nausea, the whole bit. Slept for a huge chunk of the day. Again, I don’t know what brought it on… maybe releasing some final work stress, maybe a minor virus. Maybe just a few days of not-great eating and little exercise.

At any rate, I feel better today, and about ready to start taking on some of the holiday projects with a one-day delay. Side hustle stuff, mostly.

I’m not quite feeling it with the side hustle, but that’s kind of the nature of the thing, isn’t it? It’s more fun to play games and hang out. Work, even when it’s kind of fun-work, is still work.

So today will be kind of back to All The Things. Well, maybe a little goofing off. But mainly back to All The Things.

Day 211: Day Off

Still basking in the quiet glory of my 18k yesterday, and taking my first proper rest day from exercise in quite a while. The day off isn’t total loafing: I have this to do, and the video game show, and a lunch meeting about 3k away which I’ll be walking or biking to.

If you want to avoid a totally sedentary lifestyle, ditch the car.

I’m actually feeling better today than yesterday about the run. And I’m feeling fine. Sore feet, but my knees are okay. Which is a huge relief.

I didn’t even do that bad with food; too many cookies in the evening, but hey, I ran 18k.

So this is a bit of a kick in the pants (positive) in terms of getting things in gear. Also, Stitcher Premium is turning out to be an investment in my running: Eugene Mirman on the 9k out, and John Mulaney on the 9k back, made the time… not fly by, but it went. And it’s kind of hard to run uphill while laughing. Bonus discovery: Mulaney’s sober! Like Dan St. Germain, a really nice discovery out of the blue.

My day off is kinda a work day.

Podcasts are the morning, and probably a bit of yardwork. A work lunch. This afternoon, more setup work on the side hustle thing, which is turning into more work for a side hustle than I expected.

So it’s going to be a gentle work day; starting with this podcast, then moving into a lot of stuff putting music into files. Which is a fairly cool way to spend a morning. Then it’s off to the races for a work meeting, lunch, and other… stuff.

And that’s it for vacations for the year. Well, two days in mid-August. It’s been a less than great year, vacation-wise. The experiment’s been worthy, but I definitely prefer blocks of time away to staycation/long weekends.
